I'm not a piecer, but that doesn't mean I don't piece....I do. Most of most quilts (except the wholecloths) have a pieced element. But the things I like to do best are applique and the quilting. Mary loves to piece and she is very good at it. My quilts though they have pieced elements, it is never the only thing...there is always some applique that is the dominant theme and the piecing takes a supporting role.
Paper piecing is my least favorite thing to do.
However, that being said, I have always wanted a mariner's compass in a quilt. And since Mary hasn't made one for me I decided to do it myself! Now don't look too closely,'cause you'll find lots of mistakes. ButI'm hoping, once the rest of the design comes together (with lots of applique) the piecing flaws will be less noticable.
I do like the fabrics and the vivid color. Look for many things tropical as this design comes together.

It looks great to me - I LOVE the bright colors!
ReplyDeleteWow! It's beautiful. What are you doing with it now?
ReplyDeleteI don't like paper piecing either but for something like this it's the only way to go! I think the last paper piecing I did was on Sidney's and Ira's quilts - do you still have those?
ReplyDeleteWill this be the center of a medallion quilt? I'll bet it has lots of applique and space for quilting too.
Ooooh! Prrrretty! The colors are great! Plus applique, you say? I can hardly wait to see how it progresses!
ReplyDeleteDeb,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you-I really don't like piecing either. But looking at the mariner's compass photo made me remember I have a pattern for that by Lori Nixon! Since she's been LAing for about 7 years, that'll tell you how long I've had it. lol
Love your colors-have you decided what kind of applique you'll surround it with???????
Deb...I am totally in love with the colors in this piece. Can't wait to see what comes next.
