I survived!

The surgery is over and went quite well. One of the 4 incisions had to be a little larger than normal, but other than that, and the fact that they stuck me 3 times to get an IV in, it went well. I am off the pain meds, moving around nicely, and would be feeling pretty good, except for a small post op complication. Hopefully that will be resolved real soon, and I'll be back to normal...or as normal as I get. I can't drive either the car or my quilting machine for a week, so I'm finding other things to occupy my recovery.

The baby dove, turned out to be 2, they are both out of the nest and flying around the garage, but not leaving ...yet. They are having too much fun pooping all over Don's work benches and counters. He's hoping they leave tomorrow!
I don't know....they look pretty comfortable!
I believe I told you before, I am taking an art class online. Well, I am behind a bit, but was able to get my color wheel assignment colored and fused at least. Crayola should have a warning on the label about coloring while medicated..LOL! Oh well! I got 2 of the compliments switched...can you find them?
Most of you know my Harry loves hunting lizards...he was my inspiration for the color wheel design. And he was a wonderful nurse. He has not left my side since I got home from the hospital. He laid beside me in bed just nuzzling my face with his. Chloe stayed pretty close too, just not on me like Harry. They are so sweet!
Thanks to all of you for the kind thoughts and encouragement you have so freely given. I appreciate it.

The doll challenge

I know I mentioned before the doll challenge Gayle started at MQR. The only rules were that it was any interpretation or representation of the word "Fair" And that it was due August 1st. I also think I told you this is the first doll I've ever made.....keep that in mind please as you view the results....

Meet "Ms. Fairly Funky", the mermaid crack whore. Looks like she's had a pretty rough life. My son who was visiting this past week, is a cop and he dubbed her the mermaid crack whore....fits her looks pretty well I think!

I had fun doing this, and sure learned a lot! Like draw the eyes before needle sculpting the face, my eyes turned out too small for the face. Also need some practice with that needle sculpting!
But I'll make more dolls, if only to justify what I spent on how to books...LOL! Next one will be better...I hope!

I'll be working on my lessons for the online color and design for art quilters class I'm taking while I recover.

Have a good few days!

Fiona!

And her parents. We had a great time, though it was too short. But I am thankful for what we had. It meant so much to have some time with my son, daughter-in-law and sweet little Fiona. She has gotten sooo big since I saw her last! And talking a mile a minute, and constant motion. She loved the pool and spa...quite the water baby!

I'll share a few photos of them with you. First, at the nature park.

Notice Fiona's lime green crocs...just like Grandmom's!

And then some pictures here at home in the pool and spa.

A wonderful week! They left today, and the house is very quiet again. I miss them already! But Harry I think is relieved, a toddler is tough for a kitty when you're just used to the old folks! Though Chloe didn't seem to mind as much.
Tomorrow is surgery day....UGH. I'll be glad when it's over though. And I have Kelly and the girls visit to look forward to a week from Wednesday!

A new baby!

bird, that is. A dove to be exact. The little thing hatched this morning while I was at the doctor's. I didn't want to get too close and spook the Mom, but if you click to enlarge the picture you can see the little head and eye right under Mom's head. Don't know if there is another egg.
We'll know in a day or two.

New toys!

Today was like Christmas! On Monday I start an online class at MQR, "color and design for art quilters". Well crayons, either prang or crayola was on the supply list. So, I send Don out to get the crayons..we need a box of at least 24. Well looky what he came back with! I didn't even know they had boxes of 120. And, there are NO duplicates!! ...I checked :) Just 120 different, glorious colors! How cool is that!
Tomorrow is Don's birthday. My birthday is still a month away. I have been wanting a Wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet PC for a while now. So in honor of Don's birthday, I ordered myself one! ( How's that for logic?) Don't worry, I bought him a present too. Anyway, my friend the UPS man delivered it today! And boy am I having fun!
It does take a little getting used to using the pen, but it comes pretty quick. I've already been playing in Paint. While I'm recovering from surgery I'll work on learning to use it in photoshop and corel painter.
And wait till the granddaughters get hold of it! Might be a good birthday or christmas present for them. just think of the creativity we could unleash!

Just so you know I'm not being a slug

while I'm recovering from the respiratory infection and awaiting surgery. I have been able to get a little work done...very slowly. Amazing how long it takes to complete a quilt when you only work on it an hour a day...ugh.

But it is finally done and my DH will deliver it to it's owner tomorrow. It is a very pretty quilt and she did a fantastic job...the applique is just gorgeous.

And that's about all I've accomplished the last 2 weeks! Oh I am changing over my web albums to Picasa. My virus program discovered a worm in my webshots program, so it's out of here! Off my computer. As soon as I finish the online transfer, I'll update the link on my sidebar with the new photo link.
And lastly, the countdown to Fiona's visit....6 days!

When it rains it pours

Thought I'd post a short one tonight so you didn't think I died. Though I sure felt like I did at times. It has not been the best couple weeks. I've had a bad upper respiratory bug and I have to have surgery, but it has to wait till the bug is gone. Very bad timing....we are gearing up for kids and grandkids to visit. Looks like the surgery will be the week between the 2 sets...ugh.

But, on the positive side, I have had problems for a while, so I guess it's good it's finally been diagnosed and is fixable with the surgery. Also, today I am feeling a little better, bug wise. I even did some quilting for a couple hours.

And this certainly made me feel better..my DIL sent some new pictures of Fiona. They are the first ones coming...and in just 2 weeks! I can hardly wait! My DIL says that the cats actually stay in the cart for a while and let her push them around the house....too funny! This one is the oldest of the 3 cats.

Somehow I don't see Harry allowing this.....though ya never know!

A surprise in the mail!

I love getting fun, unexpected mail. And today I got this cute postcard and bookmark from my mother.
I took the bookmark out so you could see the cute little butterflies on the background. Thanks Mother!
And along the postcard lines. Here is my card the July family swap. The theme is "patriotic".

And I even finished up a little work.

I quilted feathers in the setting triangles, a hibiscus flower with radiating rays in the blocks, and ba-bump feathers in the border.

With the summer thunderstorms, I turn off the longarm in the afternoon when they start, so my quilting slows down a lot in the summer. But the up side is I have more time to work on my own piecing, applique, painting and dyeing! Not a bad trade off.
Have a great night!
